PRP Therapy FAQs

PRP Therapy FAQs from Marin Regenerative Health

At Marin Regenerative Health in Novato, we offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. There are different properties of the blood, specifically platelets, that help the tissues heal by stimulating repair and growth response. We receive several questions about the process. We offer treatment for patients in Marin County and Sonoma County. Learn more answers to the questions about PRP therapy below.

.

What is PRP?

PRP is plasma with high concentrations of platelets. Platelets can help in helping and strengthening damaged tissues by promoting growth at the damaged site. PRP is a form of regenerative medicine.

What are PRP Injections Used for?

There are many uses for PRP therapy. They include pain relief and joint pain reduction. Other expected benefits include knee pain, shoulder pain, and elbow pain treatment.

How do PRP Injections Work?

PRP injections can be administered at our office under local anesthesia. First, small amounts of blood are withdrawn and separated into composite elements. The rich concentration of plates is then injected into the site of the damaged tissue.

How Long Do PRP Injections Take?

You can expect each procedure to be under one hour. The majority of patients require about three PRP injections, each about one month apart, to get optimal results. We can determine your progress after each injection.

What Happens After PRP?

Many patients report little to no discomfort after an injection. However, you should expect some inflammation and soreness for a few days that can be alleviated by medicine or icing the area. You can return to normal activities after treatment, but should not lift heavy objects or do strenuous activity for a couple of days. We will monitor your progress as time passes.

What are the Advantages of PRP Therapy?

Many patients report significant pain relief from PRP therapy. It can also eliminate the need for surgery or medication that can have nasty side effects. Treatment helps speed up the healing process, and you can return to normal activities without surgery. Since the blood comes from the patient, there is no risk of an immune reaction or disease transmission. PRP injections facilitate healing.
